Tissot Official Timekeeper of 2010 IIHF Hockey World Championships
Tissot, manufacturer of Swiss watches since 1853, has once again been named the Official Timekeeper of the 2010 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. The affiliation with this sporting tournament, which takes place in Germany from 7 – 23 May, underlines Tissot’s continuing commitment to the world of sport and the accurate timekeeping of its watches.
Since 1996, Tissot has been supporting the ice hockey championships in an official capacity, and this year is no different. The sport is a major event in Switzerland and Tissot sponsors the Swiss national team at a local level, highlighting the watchmaker’s own historical roots and traditional Swiss craftmanship.
As well as offering its renowned timekeeping abilities to the Ice Hockey World Championships, Tissot will also be represented by its Brand Ambassador Steven Stamkos, player for the NHL’S Tampa Bay Lightning and playing at the competition as part of Team Canada. Since 2009, Tissot has also been an Official Partner of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.
François Thiébaud, President of Tissot, said: “Partnering with major sports events is important for us as it underlines the dynamic nature of the brand and our values of precision and performance.”
As well as its involvement with the Ice Hockey World Championships, Tissot is also an official partner of this year’s Moto GP tournament following previous successful years. It is not the only watch manufacturer getting involved in some of the world’s most famous sporting events this year, with the ongoing 2010 Formula 1 tournament officially sponsored by both OMEGA and TAG Heuer, the latter featuring poster boy Lewis Hamilton as their official Ambassador.
