Can Winter Camping Be Fun
Winter camping, that is crazy, might be the response of some people but really it can be quite the adventure. For those that have tried it; it is a wonderful adventure in nature with the opportunity to enjoy the other side of the coin from those hot summer outings.
Rather then let the elements keep you boxed inside your house why not try adventuring out into nature and see if up close from another perspective. There are advantages to winter camping, like no bugs, no snakes, no humidity, no obsessive heat and crisp clean air.
Now people might ask, can winter camping be dangerous? Sure it can and so is sitting in front of the TV all winter! All you need to do is educate yourself about winter camping and then plan your first trip. If you think you are a know it all and just head out into the winter to camp you probably will find yourself in a dangerous situation because you are unprepared. You will also be well advised to try out your winter camping skill in 20 degree weather rather then winter weather that is below zero Fahrenheit.
Now it is time to consider the winter camping gear you will want to have along. Obviously you will want to take a tent. But not just a tent from your local department store. You need a tent that is designed for winter and a wonderful example of this is the North Face Mountain 25 tent. If you have a tent like that you will do well. Next you need to have along proper cold weather clothing. Warm boots, snow pants, jacket, hat, mittens or gloves and extra socks so you do not have to wear damp ones.
Additional items that you will want along are a sleeping bag rates for cold winter camping. Snowshoes will be very helpful as you trek to your camping location. Also having a shovel will help in clearing snow or digging a hole. A small hand or whisk broom can be helpful in brushing freshly fallen snow from your tent. Also sunglasses can be very helpful if you get some sunshine reflecting of the white snow.
As you ponder whether to tackle winter camping and brave the white colder side of nature, start with educating yourself regarding winter camping. Then read up on some gear and pick up what you need to have a great outing in the winter world.
