Buying a Car Online
There are so many people that do searches on online auction sites and then place random bids on whatever car they see first without even checking when the auction ends, that I’m not surprised so many end up buying cars they don’t need. Online car auctions are like any other auctions, and when you place a bid in them you are indeed legally bonded to go ahead with the purchase. The custom buyer agreement you are agreeing to before joining an auction site is a legal contract as good as ay other in the eyes of the law. This agreement that is too often regarded as another quick mouse click is in fact a legal contract that specified all laws you might be violating in case you don’t go ahead with the purchase. This means that it’s a good idea to actually read these agreements before signing them, even if you are doing this only virtually.
Carefully inform yourself of the following before placing bids online:
- The fact that details are given virtually, as in pictures or movies with the car. It’s obvious that besides the pictures you’ll get a carefully written description and maybe even phone numbers or addresses. When you are comparing for example two lebaron cars, you should also compare the seller’s specifications to the ones in the original technical manual of the car, just to make sure everything is accurate. If you happen to live in the car’s vicinity, then you can go and see it in person. But when we are talking about cars that are in a totally different country or state, things get complicated. And the sad things is that the far away cars are usually the ones that sell for less. Therefore, you must talk to the owner and evaluate the car over the phone, ask him background details and so on.
- People placing bids without paying attention are also a problem. Don’t act like saints now, I’m sure you did it at least once but got lucky and someone else over bided you. People always think that another interested buyer will place a higher bid. It’s a naïve thing to believe, because you should know better and be aware of the fact that all bids are winning bids until proven different.
- Some cars are not carefully described. If a car is lacking details and is also very cheap or when you are the first bidder, it should be regarded as a potential risk. The good news is that you can track the car with the help of specialized services that will tell you everything there is to know, for a fee.
- Additional bidding meant only to grow prices. It’s true, you are not mad, there is someone out there that bids exactly when you are prepared to give up, making you increase the bid a little more. It’s best not to continue bidding in these case because the odd bids are placed by the buyers themselves or their friends, simply trying to make you place a bigger bid.
- Shipping of the car. It’s quite a problem if you are American and want to buy a car from Japan, because the distance is enormous and shipping can get very costy.
