Climbing Rope

Climbing Rope
Can I put my climbing rope in the washing machine?

I have a 200 ft 9mm static line. I know the rope is to be washed with a mild detergent in cold water. Up until now I have washed it by hand and I was wondering if I could throw the rope in a washing machine to make things a little easier on me.

Yes you can but its recommended to use a front loading washing machine…the kind you find in the quarter laundry place. The top loader can damage the rope due to it rotating and agitating with the center cone.

We used to wash the ropes once a summer at the camp I worked at…we had cliffs not a tower.

How many rock climbing ropes have you actually washed yourself? Sure you`ll wash it by hand once maybe twice and then you`ll use the front loading washing machine. Appears others agree with the washing machine method, as I`m not the only one who does it this way.
