Trouble recording sound from dual male line-in wire on computer?
Hello,
I am trying to record sound on my computer by using a dual male 1/8″ jack in my computer using the headphone and mic jacks on my laptop. I was told that this would work, and I tried using Windows Sound Recorder to do this but the quality came out terrible, sounding like a static-y radio station. I already tried adjusting the volume on both the computer and the source of the sound, but no luck. Any suggestions?
PS The wire Im using is brand new from radio shack, I opted for the expensive one hoping it would result in better audio quality.
ALSO: For some reason, I have never been able to record sound by just using a recording program and my soundcard alone which is why I needed the wire. So there is no need to suggest this.

Navigate to sound and audio devices in the control panel. Check to see if the recording device/playback device on the audio and voice tab reflects the sound device that you specify (Sound card/ onboard audio).
The 2nd probability is that the soundcard could be faulty, you could try using your onboard audio chip to try it out.
*Btw did you disable the drivers for your onboard audio are installing the soundcard? There might be possibilities that the drivers are conflicting, which causes all that static.
