Get a Bird’s Eye View on Board the Tianjin Eye Ferris Wheel

If visitors to the touristic haven that is Tianjin wish to see this bustling city from an entirely panoramic vantage point, then the Tianjin Eye is the venue to beat.  Having opened its doors to the public on April 7th, 2008, the work on this monolithic Ferris wheel cum observation deck began in 2007 with the main structure reaching completion at the end of the same year. At an impressive height of 120 meters, the Tianjin Eye is one of four giant Ferris wheels that are scattered across China with the Zhengzhou Ferris Wheel, Changsha Ferris Wheel and Suzhou Ferris Wheel forming the rest.  Known as the only Ferris wheel of its kind to have been constructed on top of a bridge, the Tianjin Eye is only surpassed in height by global heavyweights such as the Singapore Flyer (165m), The Great Berlin Wheel (175m) and the London Eye (135m) when it was first completed.  Only second to the Star of Nanchang Ferris Wheel (160m), the Tianjin Eye is the second tallest wheel in the Chinese republic.

Connecting HongQiao District with Hebei District the Yongle Bridge on which the Tianjin Eye stands is a 32m wide 600 meter long suspension bridge over Hai River. With nearly 6 lanes of multidirectional traffic, it is difficult to fathom that the Ferris wheel is built on this fully functional overpass.

Suspended 120 meters above the ground, the wheel itself is 110m in width with the height of a 35-floor building. Offering guests captivating views with nearly 40km of visibility, the 48 cabins on the wheel are completely transparent for optimum visual appeal and a 360 degree vantage point. With the capacity to house eight passengers at a time, the Eye can accommodate 380 visitors on a single round that takes 30 minutes to reach completion.  Moved by electrical motors, the cabins on board the wheel are completely enclosed capsules with no operable windows.

Guests can expect to see stunning views of the DaHuTong, Tianjin’s Ancient Culture Street and the river cruises casting milky trails along the Hai, while those who are awaiting their turn on the apparatus can refresh themselves with drinks, popcorn and grilled sausages in the cosy waiting area by the wheel.

Travellers on the lookout for a stylish Tianjin hotel in the centre of Heping district will be more than satisfied with the elegant rest that is the Raffles Tianjin. Ideally located within the heart of the city’s shopping district with the Tianjin Binhai International Airport just 30 minutes away, Raffles is also one of the most conveniently located Tianjin hotels in town.

130 volt incandescent products work with standard 110-120 volt household systems. The advantage of 130 volt products is that they protect the incandescent filaments from power spikes (the source of most incandescent bulb failures). 130 volt bulbs are slightly less bright than 120 volt, but offer substantially longer life….
