Popular brands get that way by their reliability and popularity with consumers, and the car manufacturer Ford is one brand that is known throughout the UK for its reliability. Ford is the second largest auto producer in the United States and the fifth biggest car producer in the world, so have done something to gain this reputation. It will come as a shock then that one of the most popular trucks made by the brand has a fault that could cause the engine to burst into flames. It has occurred in the pickup model, the F-150, which is the most popular pick up by the brand in the United States.
The fault causes the engine of the truck to drag on the ground which causes friction and then sparks, and has affected hundreds of the three million cars that have been purchased since they went into production. This dragging of the engine is due to a fault with the straps corroding that are keeping the engine fixed in place, therefore causing the problem. US safety officials have stated that all cars produced between 1997 and 2001 are in danger of having this sudden rusting fault, and a serious investigation has been launched to protect the safety of the general public.
Two cars have completely combusted, with one being completely destroyed and the other being significantly damaged, and other error reports have included leaking fuel, sparks as the car was being driven and loud banging noises. Luckily no one has been injured in the explosions, but there have been over three hundred complaints, meaning the vehicles need to be recalled.
