Facts About Asbestos

Asbestos is a kind of a substance that is commonly found in the earth. There is a certain minimal concentration of it in the air that is not hazardous to the human health. Because of some historical developments that led to momentous and significant changes in the lives of the whole world, this substance is already being in several common products, especially in products for insulation and other fire-proofing materials.

The United States of America (USA) made the Toxic Substance Control Act to define the Asbestos and its other variations of asbestiform. There are actually six (6) varieties or types of the substance, which are generally categorized into two (2). These two categories are the Serpentine and the Amphibole.

On the one hand, the Serpentine is a kind of asbestos, which form is layered with curly fibres. This category composed of only one (1) type, which is the Chrysotile. This type is commonly coloured with white or green and being utilized in fireproofing products and materials for insulation.

On the other hand, the second category Amphibole consist the five (5) remaining types or verities of asbestos. These are Amosite, Crocidolite, Anthophyllite, Actinolite and Tremolite. The Amosite and Crocidolite are the only members of this category consistently being used for commercial purposes. These two types possess strong, high concentration and stiff fibres, which make them highly hazardous when the airborne fibres were ingested or inhaled.

How to Test for Asbestos? With these six (6) different types of Asbestos, only three are commonly found in the USA; these are the Crocidolite, Amosite and Chrysotile.

In the early years, these Asbestos Exposure substances are being used by elites of the Persian Empire for their garments and tablecloth. This became a status symbol since it as if possess a magic to be cleaned just only by exposing it to the fire. Then during the times of Industrial Revolution, asbestos has been applied in Canada and USA for products for insulation.

In the recent years, asbestos substances, regardless of the kind or category, are being mined and being used in industries like in the construction and many others. This is because of its properties to be highly heat or chemical resistant, flexible, strength and low electrical conductivity.

If asbestos containing materials get damaged or repaired, asbestos fibers can become airborne. These microscopic particles can cause significant health problems like lung disease, asbestosis, or mesothelioma.

Primarily because of this Asbestos Exposure trend that utilization of asbestos in products was banned in the America nowadays.
