Friction Motor

Friction Motor
DC motor (reducing friction).?

Hi, what methods can I use to reduce friction when building a dc motor?

Since there is only one moving part in a DC motor there isn’t a whole lot to cut in the friction area. But you can use ball bearings to cut friction there on the shaft and you can cut air friction losses from the spinning armature by encasing the wire coils or the magnets (if a permanent magnet armature) in a plastic smooth shell so that there are no edges to turbulate the wind,

So those two things to cut friction- ball bearings or ultimately, air bearings (air bearings use a layer of air to ride on so there is no metal to metal touch between the rotor shaft and the housing), and use a encased aerodynamic shell on the armature to reduce windage losses
