The Correct Concealed Gun Holster

Most states that allow carrying of a firearm require that the weapon be carried in a concealed gun holster. That statement means exactly that. The fire arm must be holstered and kept out of sight from the public. The only legal time that a hand gun may be visible is when a legally defined emergency requiring deadly force presents itself. Or when a law enforcement officer requests that you present the weapon for their safety. In the mean time, while not using your hand gun it is carried safely in a holster that is discreetly covered by clothing, under a coat or secured in the waist band of a pair of trousers or in a hand bag or brief case.

The design and construction of personal concealment holsters has come a long way from the days of Wyatt or Butch and Sundance, but the issue is still the same, the pistol needs to be held securely and comfortably without bulges and visible definition. This is the primary function of just about every type of concealed gun holster that is classified a concealment holster. Leather, boot, shoe and saddle shops were enlisted several hundred years ago to produce functional and attractive gun belts and holsters along with scabbards for long guns. Trying to keep up with the influx of settlers going West and each one had at least one fire arm that need holstering, was a major industry.  The concealed versions were used mostly by gamblers and fellows who were often suspects in nefarious activities that didn’t want anybody to know they were armed. Many novel inventions that were used as holsters fit under the cuff of a shirtsleeve or in the top of a boot, so if the dice or deck came up questionable the offender could at least pull his piece and flee before the bar keeper could bring out his sawed off double barrel.

Times have changed, but the concealed gun holster really hasn’t. The bad guys are still out there and by percentages, they exist at about the same rate as they did in the late 1800″s. Because many states are standing up for the second amendment, and the citizens rite to self defense, permitted to carry licenses are issued to trained, responsible citizens. This makes the purchase and use of concealed gun holsters an essential part of cooperating with the law. The move into the present has proven successful in material improvements. As most of us will agree leather is the material of choice, but the need for quiet very thin and light weight concealment holsters has increased for the two major markets, military and the citizen that is permitted to carry, purchase the products in this specialty market.

This has prompted engineers and designers of concealed gun holsters to rise to the occasion and use space age materials and re-designed ergonomics to accommodate new frame designs that new generation of semi automatic has provided. Accommodating the ambidextrous safety and slide profiles of major weapons on the market and producing some designs that accommodate both right and left hand shooters.

The majority of concealment holsters are made for automatics, but there are still many wheel guns out there. And the new generation .41long Colt/410′s are a hand full, but hide nicely in a fitted quality concealment holster designed for it. Carry responsibly, think fast, and shoot faster!
