You Will Want To Dress Up As Wonder Woman This Halloween??
Wonder Woman is an Amazon, founded on the Amazons of Greek mythology. Wonder Woman was designed by William Moulton Marston (an American psychologist by now recognized for inventing the polygraph) as a “distinctly feminist role model whose mission was to bring the Amazon ideals of love, peace, and sexual equality to a world torn by the hatred of men”. Marston introduced the concept to Max Gaines, co-founder of All-American Publications. Given the nod, Marston created Wonder Woman with Elizabeth (his wife), whom Marston believed to be a model of that era’s non-traditional, liberated woman.
Wonder Woman first showed in All Star Comics #8 (December 1941), scripted by Marston and with the help of art by Harry G. Peter. Marston designed Wonder Woman to symbolize a particular form of female empowerment. Feminism proposes that women are the same as men and should be treated as such. Marston’s representative of femininity is a 6-foot-tall Amazon carrying a golden lasso that forces obedience on those people it encircles. In Marston’s mind, women not only held the capability to be as good as men but to be superior to men.
In the beginning, Wonder Woman owed her capabilities to the goddess Aphrodite building Amazons superior to men, with Diana being the greatest of their kind. The Golden Age Wonder Woman was afterwards updated by Marston to be capable to will a tremendous amount of brain power into her muscles and limbs simply because of her Amazon education, endowing her with unusual strength and speed. According to her initial appearance, she is stronger and more agile than a hundred or so of the best human athletes.
In the beginning, Wonder Woman was an Amazon champion who wins the right to return Steve Trevor, a United states intelligence officer whose airline had gone down on the Amazons’ isolated island birthplace, to a “Man’s World” and to battle crime and the evil of the Nazis.
Right at the end of the 1960s, Wonder Woman surrendered her powers in order to stay in Man’s World rather than accompany her fellow Amazons to another dimension. Growing into a mod boutique proprietor, the powerless Diana Prince picked up a Chinese guru named I Ching. Under I Ching’s instruction, Diana mastered martial arts and weapons skills and engaged in adventures that encompassed a multitude of genres, from mythology to espionage.
As a result of the popularity of the Wonder Woman Television series, the character later on returned to her superpowered origins in Justice League of America and to the World War II era in her own title. It was intended, and finally confirmed, that any female who went through Amazon education would achieve superhuman strength. The TV series took up this notion, and in the initial show of Super Friends, Diana suggests to Aquaman “… the only thing that can surpass super strength is the power of the brain”. In earlier Wonder Woman stories, Amazon training involves strengthening this ability employing pure mental energy.
All versions of Diana illustrate her as a elegant strategist, athlete, fighter and acrobat, trained and seasoned in many historical and modern forms of armed and unarmed combat, including exclusively Amazonian martial arts. In a number of editions, her mother taught her, as Wonder Girl, for a future career as Wonder Woman. Right from the start, she is described as extremely skilled in working with her Amazon bracelets to stop bullets and in wielding her golden lasso.
She is an outstanding warrior who has beaten Batman, Big Barda, and Black Canary in sparring matches. The contemporary version of the figure varies from her compatriots in that she is prepared to use lethal force when she believes it necessary. So why not make this halloween a super powered halloween with a Deluxe Wonder Woman Halloween costume.
