Why You Have To Visit Munich

Germany is a pretty big country when it's all said and done. So it might have the land mass of countries like the United States or Australia but it ranks up there for things to do and places to see. You see Germany has a long history. Even though the land may not always have been called Germany, many of the towns, cities and regions have existed in their own right for a thousand years and longer. Sure, other countries have adopted the idea of having an October beer festival but nothing beats the one and only original in Munich.

The festival grounds consist of many large beer halls or tents. Lets just say that there is not that much to a hall or tent. The first is a fast supply of beer, the second is music or some form of entertainment and the third is many large tables with benches. The table and benches where you drink beer make people sit together and help to break the ice with strangers. In my experience, you are only a few drinks away from making some buddies. And due to the world famous nature of the festival you will meet many people from all over the world including one or two from your own country too.

The event is so popular that you have to get to the hall or tent that takes your fancy early on. If you don't get in early, say mid morning, you may not get a place on a table and have to sit outside (which is not bad when the weather is good). After that it's some serious drinking with a bit a scran thrown into the mix. Must try food has to be the sausages – ordinary or white sausages (cheese). Ok, it's not a la carte but it tastes great with beer. You can also get those foods that Germany is famous for like pretzels and sauerkraut (which may be an acquired taste).

There are some great sights to be seen in Germany, one of which has to be the beer festival in Munich. It's known as the Oktoberfest but begins around late September through to early October each year. If you plan to be in Munich around that time, then a day of gernal hilarit and beer drinking is a must do. Oh and there's plenty else to do in Munich after you've had your fill.
