Line Cord

can i connect to the internet with an ethernet cord or phone line into the wall without a modem?

i really need to know this because im going down the shore in a couple of hours. please answer.

These are the only ways of connecting to the internet or network,

LAN Local area network; requires connection to a central hub, be it a router, modem, phone line. For the Router you’ll need to be hard wired, ethernet. modem you’ll need the same or phone line goes into an onboard modem like a 56k.

WAN Wide are network; This is making use of wireless capabilities, via Wireless router, Access Point, Hot Spot or Air Wave connection.

HSDPA High-Speed Downlink Packet Access; This is making use of teh 3G/HS internet that mobile phone networks use, you can pay for a monthly package and access anywhere there may be 3G signal, this is ok in a city or a town, but rural areas may suffer from signal loss.

Ad-Hoc This connects your computer to another computer with internet access and share it, this can be achieved by either Bluetooth, Ethernet or firewire link (dependant on your hardware configuration)

Phone as modem; If you have a mobile phone like a nokia n95 or such you can link your pc to it via it’s usb connection and use it as a modem, this makes use of the HSDPA network but theres your modem.

And you will always need a modem,, thats what converts the little electrical signals into information that your computer will understand/
