New toys are made every single day and old toys have to make way for them. We have all but said goodbye to the traditional, individually handmade toys and now embraced mass-produced electrical toys that have lights and sounds and eat batteries like grains of rice. Let’s take a look at some of the most iconic old toys and why they were loved so much

Rag dolls. There is something very satisfying about a toy so simple. Once upon a time every little girl had a rag doll and they would go everywhere the child went. The best bit is, if you managed to prize them from your child’s hand, they could be dumped in some hot soapy water, hung out to dry and would be as good as new the next day. Barbie and her electrical friends are sadly the toy of choice these days. These cannot be washed using the same method but I would encourage you to give it a go.

Wooden bikes. Bikes these days are pretty much all made out of metal or plastic as these are generally the cheapest options for production. Rocking horse. Much like the wooden bike, a rocking horse made from fine wood not only looked stunning in any home but also lasted a lifetime due to its simple yet effective design. The most appealing part about a rocking horse however is that you child will be content with riding it all day and you don’t have to fork out for a real one and all the things that go with it. Rocking horse makers are hard to find these days but if you can find a good one then its well worth purchasing one.
