Old Childs

Why do parents refer to their Childs age in months after they are a year old?
I can understand with infants, l the way up to a year but after a year or 12 months it seems stupid and like the parent doesn’t want to accept the child getting older? I always hear ” my 22 month old ___” why don’t you just say my one year old, my year and a half, or almost two year old did this instead?
Is there some reason or?
Just curious, I’m due in 6 weeks and keep hearing other mothers do that when telling me about their Childs mile stones.
I swear I think it’s so people will be more impressed with their child. It sounds better when a 20 month old speaks in a full sentence than if they said an almost two year old did lol. Im due in January and have a five year old.
