Why is the minecraft icon on my desktop a sheet of paper?

I deleted minecraft from my desktop, and redownloaded it, but it appeared as a sheet of paper on my desktop, how do I get it back to normal?

By “Sheet of paper”, I’m guessing you mean the Generic Windows Icon, (this one —> http://goo.gl/MQHMp)

If that is what you mean, then it is a very simple fix.

Follow these directions:

Step 1. Close all Windows Explorer windows that are currently open. (folder windows)

Step 2. Hold the Windows Key and press R, this should bring up the Run… box.

Step 3. Type TaskMgr.exe and press Enter.

Step 4. Go to the Process tab, right-click on the explorer.exe and click End Process.

Step 5. Click the end process button when asked for confirmation. Your taskbar may disappear, this is normal.

Step 6. Click File in Task Manager and select New Task (Run…)

Step 7. Type cmd.exe and press Enter.

Step 8. In the Command Prompt window, type the following commands one by one and press Enter after each command:

CD /d %userprofile%AppDataLocal

DEL IconCache.db /a

EXIT

Step 9. In Task Manager, click File, select New Task (Run…)

Step 10. Type explorer.exe and press Enter.
