Choosing the Right Drywall Repair Kit

Drywall patch repair kits – do they work as efficiently as paying a professional drywall specialist? As a professional drywall installer with more than twenty-two years experience, I can tell you without reservation “yes, yes, yes!” With all the kits available you have to be careful and make sure you select the right kit for your project.

There are several drywall patch repair kits on the market, so making a decision can be overwhelming. First, you need to get the measurements of the crack(s) or hole(s) in need of repair. Second, the location of the crack or hole will make a difference because not all repair kits are flexible enough to repair areas such as corners or around plumbing. The third thing to consider is if the location is outdoor or indoor because not all drywall repair kits will hold up to outdoor elements. And finally, you want to consider your level of experience and how capable you feel in performing the repair.

You can approach your drywall project with different options. There are kits available that include all items needed to perform the repair. There are also repair kits that include some of the items needed but may require you to purchase additional items such as drywall compound “mud”, sheetrock, taping knife and/or drywall tape. After assessing your needs, you can start your search. Remember, not all repair kits will have the same “professional” results, so make sure you research the repair kit you select.

When shopping for a drywall repair kit, you may also want to look at things like what the product guarantees. Does the product guarantee a professional finish? What about the longevity of the patch? Can a “do it yourself” individual use this product with no formal drywall experience? What will you need in addition to the kit to complete the repair? Are the instructions easy to follow?

Considering what you would pay a drywall repair specialist versus purchasing a repair kit and patching the hole or crack yourself, there is a cost factor involved. The professional may charge up to one hundred dollars for a small repair, while a patch kit to repair the hole or crack would cost much less. For about twenty to thirty dollars you can purchase a drywall repair kit and any other items needed to complete the repair. This is a significant savings and well worth the time and effort needed to complete the project.

After assessing your options, you will be ready to find a great product with professional lasting results. You will be delighted with what you have achieved and, of course, the money you saved.
