Players are drafted by NHL clubs so they really don’t have a say as to where they end up.

There are 30 clubs (24 in the US, 6 in Canada) so the odds are favourable that a player will be drafted by an American-based club. Lest we forget, Canadian players still make up a majority of the NHL (because of talent). See how well your comments about Canada go over with Sidney Crosby.

“Your” Penguins…unless your name is Mario Lemieux (another Canadian), they’re not “your” team.

Neither Crosby nor Lemieux picked Pittsburgh; they were drafted there and essentially told that’s where they were playing (in Lemieux’s case, he was, to put it politely, very much not pleased to be going there).
