Choosing An Interior Bunny Cage Is Not That Difficult

Having an indoor rabbit cage is a good idea if you plan on keeping you rabbit indoors. Rabbits are a wonderful pet for any home, and if you take some steps to make your home safe for your rabbit, they can enjoy a high quality of life while running free inside your house.

Rabbits are very easy to train to use a litter box, so you can feel safe about letting them run free in your house without leaving bunny droppings everywhere. It’s not right to allow your rabbit to run unrestricted day in and day out since they by nature enjoy to have a space of safe haven.

If you look around, you can find a large number of different types of indoor rabbit cages on the market, but not all of them are suitable for your bunny. There are many that are large, and have wire floors, although this makes cleaning easier, it isn’t very comfortable for your rabbit and could harm its hocks.

Select The Right Size Cage

It is always best to get the largest rabbit cage that you can afford and that you have room to comfortably accommodate. This is especially true if your rabbit is going to be spending any real amounts of time inside of it. A safe standard to go by is to determine the size of your rabbit and give it a minimum of 4 times its size for space. If you’ve a smaller bunny rabbit, then you can apply this as a example. A cage of 24″x36″ is a good standard for a rabbit that is less than 8 pounds.

For rabbits that are of larger breeds, you will need a cage that is a minimum of 30″x36″. For an indoor rabbit cage the height should be tall enough that the rabbits ears do not hit the top of the cage when it is sitting straight up. The minimum height I would recommend for your indoor rabbit cage would be 40 cm, but this is only a guide. Please use you discretion and if in doubt go for the taller cage.

A lot of people choose multiple floor bunny rabbit cages with ramps connecting the levels. This style of cage allows your rabbit to have a lot more room in its cage without taking up to much more room in your home.

You had better make certain that the access to the cage is large enough for you to place the litter box in and remove it without the fear of spilling it. If your bunny is free roaming it is imperative that you get a cage that opens from the side and not from the top. This will make it easier for you to get the bunny rabbit in and out of the cage, as well as allow the bunny rabbit to escape from the cage by himself if he is a free roamer.

Make sure that the edges of the opening are safe for both you and your bunny as any shap edges could potentially cause serious injury.
