What is an antique? 

While this would seem like a very important question, it can also be very difficult to answer. 

First of all, antiques should have some historical or cultural significance. 

How old an antique should be is up for debate. Some will say 25 years where other will say 50, but generally an antique must be at least 100 years old.

What Makes a Good Antique

In order to get a good deal on an antique you need to evaluate cost, condition, rarity, and desirability.

• Always evaluate an items’ condition. It’s normal to have a certain amount of wear and tear on an item but make sure the problems are not sever enought that they drastically reduce an item’s aesthetic appeal. An antique must be in good condition if you want to turn a profit.
• Even if the condition is not great, a rare item can still be valuable.
• Many times an antique’s value is subjective based on how much someone like it. Buying antique are not just about making a profit but also about finding something that you like.
• Cost of an antique is another important factor.| You need to also be cautious about antique prices. Normally you do not negotiate an antiques price. | Antique prices are often non-negotiable. Therfore, you must have knowledge of the actual antique value so that you do not pay too much.  Also, Make sure sure you don’t fall for a forgery, fake, or reproduction. If the price seems to low for the value that you’re getting you may want to do some additional research.
