A Guide To Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado

Rocky Mountain NP is a national park located in the north central region of the United States state of Colorado. It features majestic mountain views, varied environments and climates and variety of wildlife from wooden forests to mountain tundra and easy access to backcountry campsites and trails.

Rocky Mountain National Park The park is situated northwest of Boulder, Colorado in Rockies and includes the Continental Divide and headwaters of Colorado River. It features five visitor centers.

Beaver Meadows Visitor Center is the headquarters of the park and also a National Historic Landmark intended by Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture in Taliesin West. Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado It can be accessed by three different roads including United States Highway 34, 36 and State Highway 7. The Roosevelt National Forest surrounds the park on east and north, the Arapaho National Forest on southwest and Routt National Forest on northwest.

The park is split by the Continental Divide, which gives the eastern and western portions of the park a different character. It surrounds more than 60 named peaks taller than 12,000 feet, 359 miles of trails and 450 miles of streams. The highest point of the park is Longs Peak and is the only fourteen thousand foot peak in the park.

You will find various permanent snowfields and small glaciers in high peak cirques such as Taylor Glacier, Andrews Glacier, Rowe Glacier, Moomaw Glacier, Tyndall Glacier, Sprague Glacier and Mills Glacier. Some of the popular areas in the park include Longs Peak, Bear Lake, located in the heart of the park, Trail Ridge Road, Wild Basin, Mummy Range, Never Summer Mountains and Paradise Park.

The Fauna of these forests includes Elk, beavers, coyotes, ground squirrels, deer, porcupines and chipmunks. The nearest major airport is Denver International Airport located about 1 hour and 45 minutes away from the park with connecting service to most major United States cities.

You can also use the following routes for hiking: Lily Mountain, Bierstadt Lake, Sky Pond, Emerald Lake, Flattop and Hallets, Fern Odessa Loop, The CCY (Chapin, Chaquita and Ypsilon), Bluebird Lake, Longs Peak via the Keyhole Route, Shelf and Solitude Lakes, McHenrys Peak and Continental Traverse. There are quite a few campgrounds as well; these include Aspenglen Campground, Glacier Basin Campground, Glacier Basin Group Sites, Longs Peak Campground, Moraine Park Campground, Moraine Park Group Sites and Timber Creek Campground.
