How to put charms on a ball chain necklace?

I wanted to make a necklace that has the numbers to my boyfriends dirt bike on it (426). So while in Hobby Lobby, I bought 3 number charms and a black ball chain. Problem is, the loops on the number charms are too small to slide over the balls and too small for me to freakin’ open up and slide in between the balls. If that makes sense. What can I do to put these stupid numbers on the chain!

you can use a jump ring or a bail to hang the charms onto the chain.

Note: the size of the jump ring or the bail should be larger than the chain.
