Toy Cannon

Partially solved friction problem?
A toy cannon uses a spring to project a 5.27 g soft rubber ball. The spring is originally compressed by 5.05 cm and has a force constant of 8.04 N/m. When the cannon is fired, the ball moves 15.2 cm through the horizontal barrel of the cannon, and there is a constant frictional force of 0.0327 N between the barrel and the ball.
(b) At what point does the ball have maximum speed?
At first I thought it was the point at which the spring is released but then I thought it would be that point minus the point at which the force of friction is equal to the force at which the spring is compressed a certain distance, say y, so I then used 5.05-x = y and solved for x using the friction force 0.0327 = .5 k (x^2) and got 0.0902cm and then I subtracted that from 5.05 to get 4.959cm and it says its within 10% of the correct answer…So I’m assuming there is an even more exact answer I’m not finding, any suggestions?
When the ball is x cm. from the starting positon, the force exerted by the spring is 8.04(5.05 – x) / 100 N. (Take care with the cm.)
When that force is less than the friction force, the ball will start decelerating.
8.04(5.05 – x) / 100 < 0.0327
5.05 - x < 3.27 / 8.04
x > 5.05 – 3.27 / 8.04 cm.
x > 4.64 cm.
