does anyone know if women really fought during war?

i would like to know because of dynasty warriors and samurai warriors. these two game series both have a unique collection of playable female characters. did these women really fight in war during the 3 kingdoms period of china and the sengoku era of japan? im just curious to know cause im big fans of the both series! and its characters! and what types of weapons do you think they would really use? like for example: dynasty warriors, zhen ji, da qiao and xiao qiao weild a flute and fans, and samurai warriors: oichi, okuni and no weild a kendama(japanese toy), an umbrella, and claws. unikely weapons huh!(exept for the claws maybe!) but they are pretty neat! well i hope you can answer my question! thanks!

Back then i really doubt it the only way they would have fought in the war is if the country was desperate and needed people. Usually a women in a army was either a bad sign/omen or a disrespect to the country.
