My cat is freaked out by my kids toy, what should i do to calm him down?

My daughter went running up to him and scared him and since then has been freaked out on edge…how can i calm him down? I have move to the toy given to him and he is now attacking methodically after a period of watching? Any one any advise how to settle him? Thanks in advance
Update he has just peed on it, should i just leave him to it and go to bed?

I think he just needs time to calm down and realize that the toy isn’t going to get him. If you can leave the house for awhile, that would help. Otherwise, just go about your business and ignore him until he calms down.
