How to clean your stuffed toy

Here are a few steps for how to  clean your stuffed animals thoroughly:

The first how to do thing to clean the surface of the stuffed toy to remove all dust. Take a clean cloth and slightly dampen it. Rub this cloth over the stuffed animal. If you are equipped with a vacuum cleaner at home, you can do the same with the appropriate hose attachment. When you consider using a vacuum, make sure you don’t use the short or long pile adjustment. While vacuuming the toys surface, be careful that the various accessories on the toy don’t get un-attached. After you finish rubbing the surface with the cloth, brush your soft toy’s fur with a brush that isn’t used on human hair. It is best if you use a brush with well-spaced bristles.
Make sure you use a cleaner that you have tested before on the toy so that you’re sure that it does not discolor the toy. Apply the cleaner on the spots and stains on the toy and allow the applied area to dry. After dries, brush off the residue. Remove the accessories attached to the toy before you apply the cleaner. Use very little cleaner on the toy’s surface and don’t let it absorb through the fur. If you are not sure about using the cleaners from the market, try the following homemade cleaners.

Make a mixture of two to three tbsp of dish-cleaning soap with 1/4 tsp of ammonia and three cups of water. Whisk this mixture and apply only the foam to the areas to be cleaned. Wipe this off after a while with a damp cloth.
Make a mixture of three cups of water with half a cup of rubbing alcohol and half tsp of dish cleaning soap. Like in the previous method, whisk the mixture and apply only the foam on the affected area. Wipe this off with a damp cloth.

Nowadays, most of the soft toys are made in a way that they can be washed in a washing machine. Before putting the toy in the washing machine, check for instructions and warnings on the soft toy’s label. Make sure you repair any rips or tears and remove the batteries (if it is a battery-operated toy). Treat the stains on your toy with a mild detergent before machine washing. Put the toy in a pillowcase along with the rest of your clothes that need to be washed. Wash with the gentle cycle of the machine with a mild fabric softener to keep your toy’s fur soft. Do not wash your old toys in the machine. If your toy smells foul, place it with a small amount of baking soda in a paper bag. Shake the bag till the toy is covered with the baking soda and let it rest for half an hour or so. With a brush or a towel, you can brush the baking soda off the soft toy. Make sure that your toy is not more than eighteen inches before you put it in the machine for washing. Also, make sure that your soft toy does not come filled with foam beads,  is densely stuffed or contains any paper or plastic joints.

Do not dry your soft toy in the dryer. This can cause the toy to shrink or become disfigured. If you are hanging it on a clothesline, make sure that the toy does not face direct sunlight or your toy’s color will fade.

To keep your toy looking new and healthy, keep washing it every two weeks. Brush it everyday and remove the dust that settles on it. If something spills on the toy, clean it immediately or the stain may darken and might be difficult to remove later on.
