The Very Definition Of True Vinyl

Vintage just means it’s better, to some people. All you really need to be called classic vinyl is to simply be an record because record companies no longer make vinyl like they used to. In this high tech age, all prerecorded material is becoming digital. However, before there was a CD or MP3 there was vinyl. And before there was Michael Jackson there was Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. Any serious collector of popular music will surely have some Frank Sinatra vinyl in their library.

It’s hard to imagine what kind of impact a singer can have before the age of MTV or YouTube.

It didn’t take much for Sinatra to generate exhilaration. His female admirers were called “bobby-soxers” and they followed him everywhere. Sinatra made his career appearing on many top rated radio programs in the 40’s.

After his status decreased in the late 40’s, Frank made a remarkable comeback in the cinema. After an intense lobbying drive, Frank was appointed to play a supporting part in From Here to Eternity. His work earned him an Academy Award and relaunched his performing career all over again.

In the beginning of the 50’s, Frank began his partnership with Capitol Records which produced a terrific volume of classic vinyl. For these concept records, Frank worked with well-known arrangers Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkins and Billy May.

Swing Easy (1954), In the Wee Small Hours (1955), Songs For Swingin’ Lovers (1956) and Come Fly With Me (1957) were all part of this vintage Frank Sinatra vinyl collection. All of these albums were chart-topping successes for Sinatra.

After several years making music with Capitol Records, Frank created his own label, Reprise Records. His first effort, Ring-A-Ding-Ding (1961), was an instant classic. Around this time, Frank became the boss of the Rat Pack. Along with Frank there was Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. Las Vegas, Chicago and New York were among the privileged cities where the Rat Pack showed up. A handful of these Rat Pack concerts were made into albums. Pretty much anything with the Rat Pack is considered a very cool collectible.

It’s not often where you’ll see a single performer who can be a success in movies, music, TV and concerts.

Fans of popular music know that Frank Sinatra is one of those rare performers.
