questions about the shooter movie?

okay i just watched shooter and the part where he resuse that fbi agent from being killed he shot a .22 and he had a water bottle at the end as a silencer i was wondering if a water bottle would realy silince a .22
it was a empty water bottle and i tried it on a airgun and it worked but of corse a airguns alot differnt but still no sound

It has been demonstrated to work IF:
1. you use a subsonic .22 round
2. the seal to the muzzle is perfect, (an adapter screwed to the muzzle, bottle screwed to the adapter)
3. the action remains closed tight after the shot, (no revolvers or semi-autos
4. the bottle is properly prepared
5. it is at least a two liter bottle
6. you don’t expect to hit a target more than 12″ away.
7. you are stupid enough to risk life and limb to try it
