What is a 1938, wooden hand built, 47 ft. auxillary cutter (sailboat) best suited for?

I am looking at this boat for purchase. It’s in top condition and has been well maintained, almost mint. I know a lot about boating, and have been on the water all my life but never actually sailed. Main use is to have a weekend place to stay. However, it would be nice to sail to the Bahamas from Wilmington, NC for a couple of weeks in the summer. Is this a wise choice of boat for what I’m wanting to do?
