Is it beneficial to neuter a dog over 10 years old?

Was planning on getting my 10 year old dog neutered soon. The vet said that it would cost more because the dog is over 5 years, and marking all over the house and humping will not stop because it has become habit. Any suggestions?

I agreed to a co-owned male I had being neutered at age 9 due to an enlarged prostate. Had it not been for that, he would have been left intact (he’s almost 12 now by the way).

The behaviors you have mentioned are now LEARNED and thus neutering will help nothing.

That’s a lie. And of those that DO get them <1% die from testicular cancer

Man, I wish people would leave comments of why they thumb down GOOD and PROPER information instead of falling into the propaganda that you should spay neuter everything. It's ridiculous.

Aside from shirking responsibility and convenience, there really isn't a reason to alter an animal. It just allows people to be more lax in where their dogs go and having to pay as much attention because their bitches aren't in heat or their males aren't marking.

No chance of testicular cancer (even though the incidence of them dying from a tumor that has formed is less than 1%) but the chances of increased hermangio and osteosarcoma increase.

But that's ok, speuter everything, even a 10 year old dog whose habits are now learned behaviors and WON'T be solved by neutering. Not to mention the fact that, due to his age, there is a greater chance of him dying.

I neutered my old male because at the time that was what was best for his health. If it weren't for the prostate issue, he'd still be intact.

I have an almost 5 year old male now that is intact and has no health issues. I have an almost 8 year old that has been bred a couple of times and has no health issues. Regular checks for any lumps or bumps assuage worry.

But heaven forbid people be responsible.
